Happy Founders' Day, Brothers!
Beta Gamma Chi Fraternity, Inc. was founded 10 years ago today on March 21, 2009. “Helping another establish an open awareness of integrity, diversity, love, and courage in order to reach his highest potential is the foundation of our brotherhood”. That was the motto instituted by three brave young men, our Founding Fathers: Anthony P. Fluellen, Gerald C. Dessus, and Khyle B. Wooten. Our Founding Fathers saw a need to bring together other LGBTQ brothers and create an organization built on four pillars: Brotherhood, Support, Self-Acceptance, and Success.
Today we reflect on where we have been and where we are going as one of the leading LGBTQ service organizations. As we step into our tenth year with a renewed focus on serving our LGBTQ youth and working to build stronger bonds within the brotherhood, we cannot forget the 5 components that make up our mission:
to enhance the quality of life of queer people through service programming
to uplift, educate, empower, love and serve the LGBTQ community
to promote the positive welfare of queer people on college campuses and abroad
to bond together and collaborate with LGBTQ service organization in the best interest of the brotherhood
and finally to hold fast to the vision of brotherhood while uncovering success with each step
There is a quote that I love: “For all of the differences between us and all of the forces that try to divide us, they will never exceed the power of love to unite us.” -Sense8. Our Founding Fathers brought us together so we can support one another and support the LGBTQ community, and for that, I will forever be grateful. They realized the importance of brotherhood and community. So on this 10th anniversary, I leave you with our Beta Affirmation: “I am secure in who I am, and I love myself beyond understanding. I am successful in all that I do. Through my brothers, I embody progression. I will walk through this journey and be victorious because I have the power within, the power around, and the power beyond!”
Happy Founders' Day, Brothers! Here is to another 10 years of serving the LGBTQ community and strengthening our bond of brotherhood.
