Speaking at the Dunamis Conference

The members of Beta Gamma Chi are diversity, equity, and inclusion practitioners. We advocate for the creation of safe spaces within and outside of the LGBTQ+ community. This weekend, our Founder and Regional Director, Gerald Dessus, facilitated a workshop at the Dunamis Conference hosted by Empowering Word Ministries, Incorporated.

Gerald's workshop focused on social justice for transgender people. Gerald shared his experience leading the social justice department for Mastery Charter Schools in Philadelphia. He then encouraged participants to share stories about their own experiences with cognitive dissonance before they named examples of oppression faced by members of the LGBTQ+ community, Muslims, People of Color, women, and non-native speakers. Through thoughtful discussion around systemic oppression, participants were able to brainstorm strategic ways to dismantle a common issue––the exclusion and mistreatment of transgender people within the LGBTQ+ community.

Empowering Word Ministries, Inc., is a ministry of Love, Hope, Healing, and Wholeness! We are a growing ministry that is intentionally radically inclusive, welcoming all persons regardless of race, color, ancestry, age, gender or affectional orientation.
