Community Members and Supporters––
Each year our members participate in the GLSEN Day of Silence, which is a national student-led demonstration where LGBTQ students and allies take a vow of silence to protest the harassment and discrimination of LGBTQ people in schools. Every April, students end the Day of Silence with Breaking the Silence rallies and events to share their experiences and bring attention to ways their schools and communities can become more inclusive.
Due to social distancing, 2020 will be the first year since the mid-1990s that Day of Silence demonstrations will not take place (physically) in schools across the country. As a result, our members are launching the Break the Silence initiative to call attention to the harassment and discrimination our community continues to face in the workplace, in schools, and in religious institutions.
Throughout this month, we are excited to offer a variety of virtual programs, narratives, and resources designed to raise awareness. We would love for you to take part in our efforts, which you can do by attending a program, following us, and sharing our posts on social media, sharing your own story, or donating. Visit www.betagammachi.org/volunteer to find out how.
Thank you for your continued support and involvement.
