Community Members and Supporters–– Each year we lose members of our community to hate crimes. The nine names I mentioned above belonged to beautiful souls, five of whom were younger than 25-year-olds, whose lives were taken due to proven anti-transgender bias. This is a staggering reminder that hate crimes against the transgender and gender non-conforming community continue to be a civil rights issue and a safety concern for our youth. So this month, when we proclaim 50 Shades of Queer, we are celebrating and bringing awareness to all aspects of the queer spectrum. We are embracing the evolution of our community and demanding equity and inclusion for us all. Our 50 Shades of Queer initiative is, in many ways, a call to action for our society-at-large to create spaces––safe spaces––for all queer experiences. We are asking our members and supporters to dig deep and find precisely what it is that makes their queer identity beautiful. Is your queer fearless, is it full of light, is it inspiring, is it iconic? Name it and embrace it. This month, let’s celebrate our full spectrum of queer identities in honor of those who can’t. We have live discussions scheduled each week to celebrate who we are, share our truths, and affirm each other. Join us for those discussions on May 6, May 14, May 20, and May 27 at 7 PM EST. To participate, visit www.joinqtip.org. Thank you for your continued support and involvement.
