11 years ago, three young men saw a need in our community and created Beta to fill a void and support a group of people often marginalized in our society––queer youth. Without our Founders, we would not have the opportunity to create this village of individuals from all walks of life. A village that understands, “For all of the differences between us and all of the forces that try to divide us, they will never exceed the power of love to unite us” (Sense8).
Throughout the past year, I have found myself thinking about the imprint that we are making as a collective but also as individuals. It is our individuality that has helped nurture our village, which has, in turn, influenced the communities we serve. As unfortunate as these uncertain times are, I believe it will teach us about community, humanity, and loving thy neighbor. We, members of Beta Gamma Chi, are the influencers that are going to create a better society not only for the LGBTQ+ community but for humanity.
Let us not forget that we are all in this together.
“I hope you are loved today. I hope you are felt today. I hope you are seen today. i hope you are in peace today. I hope you are nourished today. I hope you are equipped with all the things your spirit needs and requires, to be filled, to be warmed, to be whole.” ––Joel Leon
