We are more than a fraternity. Betas are role models for queer youth. We cultivate lifelong relationships with our siblings and fuel our community through service and fellowship. Founded by three Black queer men in 2009, Beta has grown to support a network of nearly 50 members across the United States. Our members are leaders in their professional fields, entrepreneurs, civil servants, and decorated scholars. We create the space we seek. We are the company we keep.
Join Beta Gamma Chi if you seek to experience belonging and a lifetime of siblinghood. Join because you want to be a part of a radical movement of self and community love. We provide our siblings with consistent opportunities to cultivate meaningful relationships and network. Betas also receive endless opportunities to develop as non-profit leaders, community members, and engaged citizens.
Above all else, we look for potential, vulnerability, and a deep commitment from prospective members. To apply for membership with Beta Gamma Chi, you must
-
Identify as cisgender male, man of trans experience, or gender non-conforming.
-
Be 18 years or older and have a high school diploma or equivalent.
When you apply, you will be asked to
-
Record a live, two-minute video introducing yourself to our Fraternity Education Committee.
-
Upload your resume.
-
Upload a signed recommendation letter from a colleague, friend, or family member.
Before embarking on this journey, you should be able to confidently and comfortably speak to who we are and what we do as a fraternity.
-
Joining a fraternity is an exciting but overwhelming process. We are here to guide you every step of the way. Once you subscribe, you will receive regular membership updates, tips, and opportunities to connect with our members. We also offer monthly local and virtual recruitment activities.
New members pay an intake fee of $552, which covers the cost of induction materials, registration for the annual retreat or conference, room and board during induction, and annual dues for 2024. After the first year of membership, members pay annual dues of $192.
Betas love hard, play hard, and work hard. Joining our siblinghood requires a commitment, from intake to active membership. New Member Education is a ten-week program that requires a weekly commitment of up to six hours. Once inducted, active members attend a monthly meeting and serve on a committee of their choice. Above our fraternal duties, we prioritize connecting and cultivating relationships with each sibling.

PROGRAM | CODE RED
Our biggest event just got bigger.
We launched Code Red in 2020 to spread awareness, recognize and celebrate local HIV advocacy and care leaders, and raise funds for HIV & AIDS research and prevention. We achieve this each year through the arts and education—presentations, discussions, storytelling, and an arts showcase. Through Code Red, we provide a platform for local and national partners to share their work directly with community members who seek care and education. This year, we are excited to host Code Red in Philadelphia with the intent to serve 100+ LGBTQ+ community members and allies.
